Functionall Books
Functionall Books was founded in 2005 by author, Fiona Bramble. Based in Victoria B.C. Canada, Functionall Books publishes innovative ESL/EFL resources for teachers and students worldwide. Functionall Books currently offers two major series of texts: "Functionall", a ready-for-the-classroom speaking course, and "Serious", a comprehensive teacher and student-friendly program. Both series are available in hard copy, e-book, or individual e-lesson form via this website or at participating bookstores.
This ready-for-the-classroom series eliminates almost all lesson prep time and provides an engaging and stimulating intensive speaking course for all levels. The Teacher Edition is photocopiable and offers invaluable teaching ideas and grammar and pronunciation references. Functionall 1: Intermediate and Functionall 2: Advanced course texts now available.
New! This comprehensive course builds language skills in a teacher and student-friendly format that introduces, practices and reviews each skill for fluency and retention. Writing: building academic writing skills and Grammar: building advanced grammar skills are currently available. Whether a teacher or a student, you know that only a fraction of the material in a "required" text is used and when the course is completed, the textbook invariably finds its way to a dusty corner of the bookshelf. At Functionall Books we want to "shrink the shelf" by redefining the traditional textbook. Functionall 2

Serious TOEFL ibt
A comprehensive course in developing integrated and independent writing skills through discussion, reading, vocabulary development, grammar reinforcement, and targeted writing practice. Serious Grammar
An advanced grammar course that introduces, practices, and reviews grammar points through writing, reading and speaking activities. Applies grammar to practical contexts and everyday usage. Advanced level.
Serious Girl Talk

bookband™
You can order a preloaded bookband™ with Functionall 1 materials or build-a-bookband™ with lessons of your own choosing. Each bookband™ also has extra memory, so that you can add new lessons as they come available at www.bookband.ca or www.eslenglish.ca.
bookband™ and Books for Africa
Functionall Books, launched bookband in May 2009. A USB flash drive bracelet, bookband allows teachers and students to "load" English lessons and lesson plans, much like one might load music onto an ipod. bookband benefits us all by using less paper and other materials such as laminates and ink; by reducing shipping weights and costs; by providing convenient and internet-free access (for those with limited, expensive, and/or censored internet access) to language-learning materials; and by offering individual and customized language-learning materials. Teachers and students "shrink the shelf" by ordering fewer traditional textbooks and using only the lessons and materials truly required. This philosophy is spread by asking those in countries in which books are readily available to shrink their shelves by donating gently-used or new textbooks to those who have limited access to books and textbooks. Functionall Books and bookband officially partnered with Books for Africa in March 2009 to help realize this goal. In addition to our ongoing book drives, a portion of proceeds from every bookband sale goes directly to Books for Africa.
An alumna of the University of Victoria with a B.A. in Applied Linguistics and English Literature, together with completion of the post-graduate diploma in Applied Linguistics, Fiona has been tutoring and teaching ESL since 1993. Fiona's experiences in the ESL classroom show her how students engage and improve their language skills when using material that is current and relevant to their lives. Her students have given her a wealth of knowledge about their cultures and languages that has expanded her world and inspired her immeasurably. She hopes her teaching and textbooks can bring the same to their learning experiences.
